Does anyone else feel like you just made it through the hustle and bustle of Christmas, and then, Baam!
In fact, for busy entrepreneurs, it means that procrastination has hit and you are likely working yourself up into a furry trying to decide how to spend the day with your loved one.
Here is a list of fret-free ways for you to make your last minute Valentines Day a winner:
Heartfelt Romantic Breakfast
Wake up that extra bit early and start Valentine’s Day off with a yummy batch of pancakes. Pour the batter into the frying pan (if you’re brave try attempt a heart shape) and serve with whipped cream and strawberries. This would show your loved one how much you care.
If you’re seeking a moment of relaxation to unwind, then an at-home spa day is exactly what you and your partner need. Who needs to book into expensive resorts hours away when you can buy some fancy shower gel (Yes, Cape Town is still in a drought), fill your home with soothing candles and invest in some massage oils?
Movie night (With A Twist)
Maybe you fancy a night at the movies? But maybe you also fancy saving those ridiculous movie costs? If you fall into the latter category, then choose to make your celebrations more unique by creating a romantic at-home cinema feel to the night. You’ll avoid sitting in an uncomfortable cinema, in an uncomfortable chair with uncomfortable Steve sitting behind you chewing loudly. Plus, you’ll probably find that your popcorn and Whispers
If you don’t have the time or the Feng-Shu skills to craft together an at-home cinema, then get yourself some tickets to watch a screening under the stars at the Galileo Open Air Cinema.
And by yourself, I mean your partner. What have they been hinting towards getting lately? Maybe they haven’t been that generous with hints. Try to remember the small things they’ve mentioned that you’ll know they will want or need. Even if its a new toothbrush – at least they will think of you every morning… And night hopefully.
Valentine’s Day dinners can be a little bit tough on the wallet, so a great alternative would be to stay in and cook a meal together.
Make it a real team effort by splitting the culinary duties. For example, if you’re attempting to make homemade pizza, one of you can make the base and the other can make the sauce. Don’t fight over who does what.
If you’re both working late and will be too tired to cook something together, then order in your
You’d be silly not to make the most of the great outdoors with a delightful picnic. If fresh air is what you are seeking, why not try Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens – pack a picnic basket, a blanket to sit on and don’t forget bae.
You don’t need to leave your home if you’re lucky enough to have a garden of your own. Put together a nice selection of food, throw in a few drinks and voilà! You could always make it an indoor picnic in front of the TV if the Cape Town weather is messing with you.
Whether you’re a wine know it all or you just like drinking the stuff, going wine tasting with your significant other on Valentine’s Day is definitely the highlight of romance.
It may be a bit last-minute to book a proper wine tasting so once again you can make it a DIY wine tasting at home. Buy a selection of wine, pour small amounts of them into different glasses and test your other half’s skills to see how much of a connoisseur they really are.
And even if both of you don’t have the slightest clue about wine, at the end of the day you’ll both spend the evening together getting tipsy, which is definitely still a win-win. Just be sure to take a panado before bed and in the morning, because work waits for no one.
Surprise Love Notes
Sometimes it really is just nice to notice all the small efforts you put into your relationship. Grab a package of heart-shaped post-it notes on your way home from work, write down the things you love about them and scatter the notes throughout the house. They’ll love to see all the reasons you adore them.
Frame It Up
A picture says a thousand words. Find a memorable photo of the two of you, print it at work and grab a frame on the way home. The picture doesn’t have to be a fancy posed portrait, it can also be a funny attempt at you both trying to take a funny selfie. Its the feeling that you get when you look at the picture that matters.
A Day Off From Parenting
Plan ahead, and arrange to have the kids visit Grandma on Valentine’s Day and stay overnight (that’s if Grandma hasn’t got plans of her own). This will give you both some of that alone time to focus on each other and to sleep in the next day. Your day off doesn’t necessarily have to happen on Valentine’s Day. Move it to fit around your busy entrepreneur work schedule.
Even though life as an entrepreneur means juggling work, home and life, make sure you prioritise and take the time to recognise and love your significant other for the role they play in your life and entrepreneurial journey.
